Player Positions
Defence:
-Right
-Center
-Left
A defensive player controls the
end closest to their own net. It protects the area from opposing
players creating an opportunity to score. Defensive players play as
blockers. If the opponent has the ball and is facing the goal, they do
not give him or her room to shoor. They try to now let their opponent
pass them and always remain on their toes ready to sprint at any time
to protect the net. Defensive players play with an aggressive
and intimidating attirude, making their opponent think about them, and
not what is going on around the field. The defenders want to push the
ball up the field, most likely to the midfielders.
Midfield:
-Right
-Center
-Left
The midfield players try to
protect the ball from getting to the defenders. The midfields are in
the center of the field and work together with the defenders and the
forwards to try to bring the ball to the opponents side. They work as
supporters to the center forwards and help them create opportunities to
score. Midfielders has many jobs the he/she can do. They can rarely
afford to rest while the game is going on. They have to run
back and forth and play both defensively and offenceivly. They can
score, defent, pass, dribble, or just try to keep the ball away from
the opponents. It is important to have a strong set of midfielders in a
game of soccer.
Forward:
-Right
-Center
-Left
Forwards need to have a strong
kick because they cannot dribble around the opponent's defenders all
the time. An offensive player has to do as much passing as any other
position on the field if not more. They are the main scorers in the
game, and are the closets to the opponents net. Their main goal is to
score as much as they can.
Goalie:
The goal keeper is one of the
most important positions in soccer. They protect their net from the
opponents and work as an attacker to do anything they can to prevent
the opposing team from scoring. Without the goalkeeper, there is no
game.
